Tues 08 Sept 2009

It was with great delight that the RWM Bro. George McPheat welcomed a large Deputation from Lodge Newlands 949 Coalburn into the Lodge this evening. The Deputation was headed by Bro. Andrew Succel RWM who along with the Office Bearers of 949 conferred an excellent EA degree on Mr Andrew Fernon. The RWM of both lodges congratulated Bro. Fernon and wished him well for the start of his masonic career and thanked him for the manner in which he conducted himself throughout the proceedings.

The evening continued with Bro. Bill Cullen IPM paying a fitting tribute to two well known Lodge members Bro. Bill Coventry PM and Bro. Arthur Jamieson PM who sadly passed away to the Grand Lodge above during the recess. Once again our condolences and deepest sympathy are conveyed to the families of both Brethren who remain in our thoughts and prayers at this sad time.

Honorary membership of the Lodge was presented to Bro. Andrew Succel RWM 949 for which he kindly accepted and thereafter thanked the RWM and Brethren of 963 for bestowing him with such an honour. Bro Andy Roberstson was presented with his Master Masons diploma from the RWM.

Bro. George McPheat RWM

30 May 2009

I would wish to thank the Past Masters, Lodge Office Bearers and the Brethren of 963 for their support throughout the first half of the year. It has been a very encouraging start to my tenure in office and I am delighted with the progress we have made in the last year, both in members returning to this their Mother Lodge and to the new members who have joined the Lodge. I am sure the second half of the year will be just as fruitful and hope you will join with us in fellowship and harmony  and enjoy more pleasurable evenings in each others company. I would further wish to offer my heartfelt thanks and appreciation to our visitors who have been attending in abundance over the past few months, it goes without saying that your support has been overwhelming and long may it continue.

Finally may I wish you all a pleasant break throughout the summer and look forward to meeting up again in September refreshed and raring to go.

Best Wishes

George

Regular Meeting

Tues 14 Apr 2009

It was with great delight that we welcomed a large Deputation from Lodge Woodhall St John's 305 from Bellshill into the Lodge this evening. The Deputation was headed by Bro. Gordon Airns RWM who along with the Office Bearers of 305 conferred an excellent FC degree on Bro. Andy Robertson.

The evening was further enhanced by a Deputation of visitors from Lodge Pitgaveny 681,  Lossiemouth and their friends from Glasgow, who were headed by their RWM Bro. Harry Michell. This was also a unique occassion for Bro. Harry as he was also returning to visit his Mother Lodge after many years away, as he told us in his thanks to the degree team, it is on evenings like this where Brethren from many distant parts come together and make an evening so special. Both visiting Masters thanked Bro. George McPheat and the Brethren of Whifflet St John for the warmth and cordiallity of the welcome they received and wished our candidate Bro. Andy Robertson best wishes and congratulations on his progress in the craft.

Bro. George McPheat RWM Lodge Whifflet St John 963, thanked everyone for their attendance here this evening and charged each visitor to take fraternal greetings back with them to their respective Mother Lodges.

The evening culminated in a short harmony in the lounge which gave everyone the opportunity to catch up on old times and enjoy another great evening in fellowship.

Regular Meeting - PGL Visitation

Tues 10 Mar 2009

The lodge held it's regular meeting this evening where a large number of Brethren witnessed the Office Bearers conferring the EA degree on Mr Andy Robertson. The RWM Bro. George McPheat also had great pleasure in welcoming a large and distinguished deputation from the Provincial Grand Lodge of Lanarkshire Middle Ward, headed on this occassion by the Substitute Provincial Grand Master Bro. Bill Perry.

It was also a delight for Bro. Andy Robertson to take his first steps in Freemasonry in front of such an audience,  which included members of his family and friends who came along to offer their support, I am sure Bro. Andy will remember the occassion for many years to come. An excellent evening was made more gratifying with the SPGM giving a good report on the Lodge books and thanking the Brethren for their continued hard work and support. A special thankyou must be made in regards to our Worthy Secretary and Worthy Treasurer whose unstinting efforts ensured such a report be possible.

With the labours ended it was again satisfyng to hear Bro. John McGhie PPGSW convey his thanks on behalf of Provincial Grand Lodge to the degree team for their efforts this evening. Thereafter the Deputation retired to the lounge for further Lodge hospitality and harmony, a memorable evening was had by all.

Once again the Right Worshipful Master would wish to thank the Brethren of 963 for their loyalty to their Mother Lodge and to our visitors once again for their continued support.

Special Thank You

Tues 10 Feb 2009

The Right Worshipful Master, Bro. George McPheat, Past Masters, Office Bearers and Brethren would wish to take this opportunity in thanking our Worthy Treasurer, Bro. Bruce Wilkie PM for the wonderful gift of the framed certificate of his Honourary Grand Rank.

Bro. Bruce received this unique Honour from Grand Master Mason last year and although this is a personal accolade, Bro. Bruce in a short speech to the RWM and Brethren stated that this should also be in recognition of all hard work from all the Lodge Brethren.

The RWM thanked Bro. Bruce for the gift and his kind sentiments to the Lodge members and assures us it will be proudly displayed within the Lodge.

Provincial Grand Lodge

Annual General Meeting

Fri 09 Jan 2009

Bro. James L. Jack, Provincial Grand Master presided over a very large attendance (191) at the Annual General Meeting of Provincial Grand Lodge which was held in Uddingston last evening.

It was noted by the Provincial Grand Master that the Province of Lanarkshire Middle Ward has donated over £100,000 to Non Masonic charities over the last 2 years, a truly excellent acheivement by all involved. In addition to this the Provincial caravan fund  grows and is near to the £25,000 mark, which again is a super effort and above all expectations.

We have one very notable acheivement from a Lodge perspective in respect of one of our own Brethren which is as follows:

“After serving as the Lodge representative on Provincial Grand Lodge Committee since 2001, we would like to congratulate Bro. Bill Cullen PM on his preferment to the Office of Vice President of Stewards in the Provincial Grand Lodge of Lanarkshire Middle Ward at their AGM on 9th January 2009 and wish him every success for the years ahead”.

If any Brother requires further information in regards to the Provincial Grand Lodge AGM, please speak with Bro. Bill or the Worshipful Wardens.

James L. Jack along with a fine and distinguished Deputation from the Provincial Grand Lodge of Lanarkshire Middle Ward.

The Right Worshipful Master Bro. George McPheat would wish to most sincerely thank his Installing Masters for an excellent ceremony along with the Brethren of Whifflet St John 963 for affording him such an honour and he hopes that those Brethren present enjoyed the occasion as much as he did.
