The RWM Bro. James Durning Jnr had great pleasure in leading a Deputation of Office Bearers and Brethren from the Lodge to our Sister Lodge Coltswood Glenboig 1067 to confer the FC Degree. The deputation was received by DoC Bro Ian Wilson PM 1067 and cordially welcomed by Bro Gordon McLeod RWM 1067 and afforded a warm welcome by the assembled Brethren.

 

This being the first degree of the new RWM and Office Bearers of 963 the work was truly excellent and was warmly received by the assembled Brethren, as always the Brethren conducted themselves in an excellent manner and a fine degree was witnessed by all.

 

A vote of thanks was conveyed to the degree team for their labours by Bro David Stewart RWM of Lodge St Andrews Military with a suitable reply afforded by our Worthy Junior Deacon Bro. Jim Durning Snr (PM 1067).

 

The RWM and Brethren were thereafter invited to join the Brethren of Coltswood in light refreshments and harmony.


Lodge Caldercruix 1314

The RWM Bro. Gordon Johnstone had great pleasure in leading a Deputation of Office Bearers and Brethren from the Lodge to our Sister Lodge Caldercruix 1314 to confer an exemplification of the EA Degree. The deputation was cordially welcomed by Bo Allan Hutton IPM 1314 and afforded a warm welcome by the assembled Brethren.


An EA degree was carried out by the Office Bearers of 963 most notably the father and son act of Jim and young James Durnin. The degree work was truly excellent and was warmly received by the assembled Brethren, as always the Brethren conducted themselves in an excellent manner and a fine degree was witnessed by all. A vote of thanks was given to the degree team for their labours by Bro Allan Hutton IPM, who also passed comment on James Durnin floor work, a suitable reply was given by Bro. Jim Durnin PM.


The RWM and Brethren were then invited to join the Brethren of Caldercruix in light refreshments and harmony.

An excellent FC degree was carried out by the Office Bearers of 963 and was warmly received by the assembled Brethren, as always the Brethren conducted themselves in an excellent manner and an excellent degree was witnessed by all. Widow's Son Military Lodge # 202 Kandahar Afghanistan

It was with great pleasure that I Bro. Billy McPheat had the opportunity to attend a social evening with BBQ and song with Members of Widow's Son Military Lodge # 202 Kandahar and their distinguished guests from other Military Lodges in country


A mix of Brethren from Craft masonry along with members from other various orders and including non masons, it was a great evenings entertainment on the boardwalk in KAF Military base.


May I thank  the members of Widow Son lodge 202 in organising the event and for their generous hospitality.

Lodge Services 1291 Edinburgh

The deputation was cordially welcomed by RWM 1291 and afforded a warm welcome by the assembled Brethren.

 

An excellent FC degree was carried out by the Office Bearers of 963 and was warmly received by the assembled Brethren, as always the Brethren conducted themselves in an excellent manner and an excellent degree was witnessed by all. A great night was had by all in attendance and a vote of thanks was given to the degree team for their labours by RWM St Marys Chapel No.1.

The deputation was cordially welcomed by RWM 1461 and afforded a warm welcome by the assembled Brethren.

An excellent FC degree was carried out by the Office Bearers of 963 and was warmly received by the assembled Brethren, as always the Brethren conducted themselves in an excellent manner and an excellent degree was witnessed by all. A vote of thanks was given to the degree team for their labours by the WSW Bro. Danny Millar, to which Bro. Hugh Glen IPM gave a suitable reply.

Lodge New Monkland Montrose 88

The RWM Bro. Brian Martin led a Deputation of Office Bearers and Brethren from the Lodge to our Sister Lodge New Monkland Montrose 88. This was not as per usual protocol where the Office bearers would confer a degree. The motive behind this visit was to relieve the RWM Bro Bob Mudie of 88 of the traveling gavel; the Deputation was cordially welcomed by RWM and afforded a warm welcome by the assembled Brethren. RWM Bro Bob Mudie of 88 thereafter presented RWM 963 with the traveling Gavel.

On the night we also witnessed a fine MM degree by St Andrews 544 led by RWM Duncan Osborne and his Office Bearers. At the end of the evenings labours the RWM and Brethren were then invited to join the Brethren of 88 in light refreshments.

 

Lodge Woodhall St John 305

Lodge Caldercruix St John 1314

Tues 20 Nov 2012

The RWM Bro. George McPheat had great pleasure in leading a very large deputation into our sister Lodge Caldercruix St John 1314 to confer the Mark degree. A total of 31 Brethren from 5 different Lodges accompanied the RWM into to Lodge room. The RWM and Deputation were cordially welcomed by RWM Bro. Scott Averall who thanked Bro. George for his attendance, the deputation was thereafter warmly received the assembled Brethren.

After the reception formalities were concluded the Lodge was opened in the MMM degree where an excellent Mark degree was conducted by the RWMM and his office bearers. In total five Brethren were advanced to MMM degree and I am sure they thoroughly enjoyed the work this evening.

A vote of thanks was conveyed on behalf of the assembled Brethren MM Bro. Ian McCombe of The Operative Lodge of Airdrie No. 203, where a suitable reply was returned by the RWMM Bro. Brian Martin 963. The Lodge was closed in due and ancient form where the RWM Bro. Scott Averall cordially invited all to return for refreshments and lodge hospitality.

Another excellent evening was had by all and we look forward to more in the coming months.

It was with great delight that the RWM Bro. George McPheat led a deputation to our good friends at  Lodge Services 1291 in Edinburgh to confer an exemplification of the FC Degree. The deputation was presented by Bro. Malky Monroe DOC, cordially welcomed by RWM Bro. Danny Nicholls and warmly received by the assembled Brethren.

An excellent FC degree was carried out by the Office Bearers to the satisfaction of the assembled Brethren, with wee Tam back in the fold with his FC lecture conducted in his own unique style. The RWM would wish to thank those Brethren who continue to support him on lodge travels with special thanks Bro. Jim Weir on his first time standing in as Inner Guard, as always the brethren conducted themselves well and an excellent degree was witnessed by all.

A vote of thanks was given to the degree team for their labours by the PM Bro David Landles to which a suitable reply was conveyed by our Worthy Chaplain Bro. Gordon Johnstone. The Lodge was closed in due and ancient form and thereafter we were invited to Lodge hospitality and harmony and a chance to catch up with old friends

Combined Divine Service Lodges 88, 203, 1314

The annual Divine Service of Lodges 88, 203 and 1314 was held in The New Wellwynd Parish Church this evening, the service was conducted by the Parish Minister Robbie Hamilton. Also in attendance at the service along with the respective RWMs and visiting lodges representatives’ was the Provincial Grand Master Bro. Tom Davidson accompanied by officers of The Provincial Grand Lodge of Lanarkshire Middle Ward.

 

Companionship, friendship and fellowship are important in life and integral in the life of the Lodge, what a difference it makes when travelling with others upon our journey of faith. God through his teachings brings us into fellowship with him and with each other. This is what it means to be part of the Body of Christ, one with him and one with our brethren within the Province and beyond, within our local community and worldwide as well. May God continue to bless us and keep us, and bind us closer together in brotherly love, friendship and fellowship.

 

In celebrating their 250 anniversary Bro. Bobby Gaines RWM 88, conducted an eloquent reading from book of St John, at the conclusion of the service the congregation were invited to refreshments in the church hall.

 

Lodge Whifflet St John 963 was represented by Bro. John Moran WSW, Bro Hugh Glen PM IG and Bro. Billy McPheat Steward, an enjoyable evening was had by all in friendship and fellowship.

 

Lodge New Monkland Montrose 88

The RWM Bro. George McPheat had great pleasure in leading a deputation to Lodge New Monkland Montrose 88 to carry out the FC degree. The deputation were by welcomed by RWM Bro Bobby Gaines and warmly received by the assembled Brethren.

A small deputation consisting of Past Grand Master, Bro. Hugh Young and Past District Grand Master Bro. Kim Greenizan, both from Province of Alberta Canada accompanied by Right Worshipful Substitute Provincial Grand Master of Lanarkshire Middle Ward Bro. Norman Carnegie were warmly and cordially received by RWM Bro. Bobby Gaines who had great delight in welcoming them into the Lodge this evening.

Thereafter followed a full rendition of the fellow craft degree which was carried out in true 963 fashion with a couple of brethren standing in at short notice and an excellent degree was witnessed by all. A vote of thanks was given to the Office Bearers for an excellent FC degree by the Past Grand Master Bro. Hugh Young of Grand Lodge of Alberta, Canada. RWM Bro. George McPheat gave a suitable reply and thanked Bro. Hugh for his kind words and sentiments.

At the conclusion of the meeting the Brethren were invited for a bit of Lodge hospitality which gave everyone a chance to renew some old friendships and have a chat amongst friends. A great night was had by all and we would wish to thank the RWM Bro. Bobby Gaines and the Brethren of Lodge 88 for their warm welcome and generous hospitality, another link in the chain of friendship has been truly cemented this evening.

The RWM Bro. George McPheat had great pleasure in leading a deputation to Lodge Old Monkland St James 177 to carry out the FC degree. The deputation were by welcomed by RWM Bro Alan Logan and warmly received by the assembled Brethren.

A vote of thanks was given to the Office Bearers for an excellent degree by the PM Charlie Clarke to which a suitable reply was conveyed by RWM Bro. George McPheat who thanked Bro. Charlie for his kind sentiments.

At the conclusion of the meeting the Brethren were invited for a bit of Lodge 177 hospitality which gave everyone a chance to renew some old friendships and have a chat amongst friends.

Operative Lodge of Airdrie 203

The RWM had great pleasure in heading a deputation of office bearers and brethren from the Lodge to our friends at the Operative Lodge of Airdrie 203 to confer an exemplification of the EA Degree. The deputation was cordially welcomed by RWM Bro Ronnie McDougall and warmly received by the assembled Brethren.

The degree was carried out in true 963 fashion with a few brethren standing in at various positions, thanks to PM Bruce Wilkie for taking on the role of acting WSD, however as always the brethren conducted themselves well and an excellent degree was witnessed by all.

A vote of thanks was given to the degree team for their labours by the PM Bro Tom Donald to which a suitable reply was conveyed by IPM Bro.Brian Martin.

Lodge St Andrew 199

The IPM Bro. Brian Martin had great pleasure in heading a deputation to our Sister Lodge, St Andrew 199 Cumbernauld this evening to confer the Fellow Craft degree. The IPM was accompanied by Lodge Past Masters and Lodge Office Bearers, the deputation was cordially welcomed and warmly received by Bro. Charles Murphy RWM and Lodge members.

An excellent rendition of the FC degree was carried out by the Whifflet Office Bearers which was to the satisfaction of the assembled Brethren, including the Worthy Senior Deacons mishap with the Apron, (he says he was testing the attention of the assembled Brethren..............). It was also worthy of note to see PM Bro. Bill McFadyen taking to the Masters chair in the Lodge, more so with him being an honorary member, to which he later commented it was indeed a pleasure and an honour. After the formalities of the evening were concluded a vote of thanks was expressed by Bro. John Craig RWM Lodge Sothern Cross 1243 Glasgow and a suitable reply was conveyed by the IPM Bro. Brian Martin.

Another excellent evening was enjoyed in the company of the Brethren of 199 and their visitors considering it was only last night that we had them over in Coatbridge.  The IPM Bro. Brian Martin, Past Masters and Office Bearers would wish to thank the RWM and Brethren of Lodge St Andrew 199 for their warm welcome and generous hospitality.

It was with great delight that PM Bro.  Bill Cullen led a Deputation of office bearers and brethren from the Lodge to our friends at Lodge Woodhall St John 305 to confer the FC Degree. The deputation was cordially welcomed by RWM Bro Alan Jamieson and warmly received by the assembled Brethren.

The FC degree was carried out in true 963 fashion with a few brethren standing in at new positions some for the first time, however as always the brethren conducted themselves admirably and an excellent degree was witnessed by all.

Lodge Garrowhill 1413

Bro. Brian Martin RWM accompanied by Lodge Office Bearers attended Lodge Garrowhill 1413 this evening where they conducted the Entered Apprentice degree. The Brethren were welcomed into the Lodge by the RWM and the Brethren of 1413 and after the normal formalities Bro. Brian Martin RWM assumed control of the Lodge  and thereafter conducted an excellent degree.

At the conclusion of the degree Bro. Graham Gourly PM conveyed a vote of thanks to the degree team  to which the RWM took pleasure in offering a suitable reply. The Lodge was closed in due and ancient form and the Brethren retired for refreshments.

 

Lodge St Andrew 544

The RWM Bro. Brian Martin accommpanied by Lodge Office Bearers led a fine deputation this evening to our sister Lodge St Andrew 544 to confer the Entered Apprentice degree. A vote of thanks to the degree team was expressed by Bro. Bill Laing PM and Bro. George McPheat PM suitably replied. 

Another execllent evening was enjoyed by all those in attendance and we look forward to further meetings with our friends from 544 in the near future.

The IPM Bro. Tom Connor took great delight in leading a deputation to Coltswood Glenboig 1067 this evening to confer an exemplification of the EA degree on Bro. Gordon Miller. The deputation was warmly received and welcomed by the RWM Bro. Gordon Rowe.

At the conclusion of the formallities a vote of thanks was expressed by the RWM of the Operative Lodge of Airdrie 203, Bro. James Callender with a suitable reply from Bro. John Moran. Another excellent evening was enjoyed in the company of our friends at 1067 and we look forward to further visits over the coming year.  

On a lighter note the IPM Bro. Tom Connor invited Bro. Jimmy McLatchie to sit in the Masters chair throughout the meeting in recognition of Jim being presented with Honorary membership of 1067 in December 2010.

Bro. Jim took the great pleasure in presenting the RWM and Brethren of 1067 with a glass mallet as a token of his appreciation in being presented with Honorary membership of the Lodge.

It was with great pleasure that the RWM Bro. Tom Connor led a fine deputation into 1067 this evening. The RWM and the deputation were warmly received and welcomed by  RWM Bro. Jim Durning and the assembled Brethren.

Accompanying the deputation from sister lodges were PM Jeff Spence from Caldercruix 1314 and Past Masters Bro. Jace Cranson and Bro. Graham Gourly both of Lodge Garrowhill 1413.

A vote of thanks was given to the Office Bearers for an excellent degree by the RWM of Lodge Bishopbriggs Bro. William Newlands to which a suitable reply was conveyed by WSW Bro. Brian Martin PM.

Services Lodge 1291 Edinburgh

The RWM Bro. Tom Connor had great pleasure in leading a deputation of thirteen Brethren including PM Jim Webb of Lodge Burns Immortal and Bro. Robert Young of Lodge Heatheryknowe to Services Lodge Edinburgh on Thursday 7th Oct to carry out an exemplification of the FC degree.

Amongst those present at the meeting was the Provincial Grand Master of Edinburgh who was there to present a 60 year Diploma to one of  Brethren of Services Lodge. The Lodge Officers were commended on an excellent FC degree which drew favorable comments from the PGM and assembled Brethren.

At the conclusion of the meeting the Brethren were invited for a bit Edinburgh hospitality which gave everyone a chance to renew some old friendships and make some new ones.

A great night was had by all and the Brethren look forward to meeting up again in the near future.

 

Lodge Old Monkland St James 177

Bro. Tom Connor RWM along with the Lodge Officers led a fine deputation into Lodge Old Monkland St James 177 this evening to confer the Fellow craft degree. The deputation was warmly welcomed and received by the RWM and Brethren of 177. At the conclussion of the procedings the RWM and Office bearers had great pleasure in joining our friends from 177 for refreshments and harmony, an excellent evening was enjoyed by all and we look forward to many of the same.

The RWM Bro. Tom Connor accommpanied by Lodge Officers led a large deputation this evening to our sister Lodge Woodhall St John 305, to confer the Master Mason degree. A vote of thanks to the degree team was expressed by Bro. John Alcorn RWM and RWM Bro. Tom Connor suitably replied. A trully superb evening was enjoyed by all those in attendance and we look forward to further meetings with our friends from 305 in the near future.

Bro. Tom Connor, Right Worshipful Master, had great pleasure in heading a deputation to our Sister Lodge, St Andrew 544 this evening in Coatbridge, to confer the Fellow Craft degree. The RWM was accompanied by Lodge Past Masters and Office Bearers, the deputation was warmly welcomed and kindly received by Bro. Colin  Fulton, RWM and Lodge members. 

After the formalities of the evening were concluded a vote of thanks was expressed by Bro. John Hulme PM and Bro. Bill Cullen PM  suitably replied, another excellent evening was enjoyed in the company of the Brethren of 544  and their visitors and we look forward to further visits over the coming year.  

 

Lodge Woodhall St John 305

It was with great pleasure that the RWM Bro. George McPheat had the opportunity of attending the installation ceremony at Bellshill this evening. Accompanied by Past Masters Bro Bill Cullen, Bro Andy Chalmers and Bro. Tam Connor we witnessed and excellent ceremonial where Bro John Alcorn was installed into the chair. Also in attendance was PM Bro. Pringle Johnstone who attended with the PGL deputation.

At the culmination of the ceremony we enjoyed an excellent harmony and spent some time in the company of our friends from 305.  

 

Lodge St Servanus 771

The RWM along with a number of Lodge Officers took the opportunity of attending Lodge 771 in Alva this evening. They were warmly welcomed by the RWM of Lodge St Servanus and witnessed an excellent Fellow Craft degree by the lodge office bearers.

This was also the Lodge annual awards night and again we were treated to an excellent night of entertainment and fellowship.

Bro George McPheat RWM had great pleasure in attending the installation ceremony of a great friend of Whifflet St John in Bro. Jim Durning, who again takes to the chair of his Mother Lodge in this their centenary anniversary year. Bro George was ably accompanied by Past Masters Bro. Hugh Rankin, Bro. Hugh Glen, Bro. Andy Chalmers and WSW Tam Connor, along with SM Bro. Jim McLatchie and Bro. John Moran, PM Bro. Bill Cullen was also in attendance with PGL deputation. 

An excellent ceremony was conducted by the Installing Masters and once again we were afforded with a most memorable meal and harmony.

The RWM Bro. George McPheat accompanied by Bro. Brian Martin PM and Bro. William McPheat had the great pleasure of attending the installation ceremony of Lodge Garrowhill 1413. Bro. Pringle Johnstone PM was also in attendance as part of The Provincial Grand Lodge of Lanarkshire Midddle Ward deputation. The Deputation was headed by Bro. Tom Davidson Substitute Provincial Grand Master, accompanied by Bro. Jim Jack Provincial Grand Master and Officers of Provincial Grand Lodge.

An excellent ceremony of installation was carried out by Bro. Alex McLaughlin PM and Bro. Graham Gourlay PM, on the RWM elect Bro. Jace Cranston.

After the formal procedings were concluded we were treated to an excellent meal and harmony which was thoroughly enjoyed by all. The RWM Bro. George McPheat would wish to thank those who accompanied him this evening and conveys fraternal greetings and best wishes from all at 963 to Bro. Jace Cranston RWM and his Lodge officers for the coming year.

John Clydesdale PM had great pleasure in attending a Special Burns Supper to commemorate the 250th Anniversary of the birth of Bro. Robert Burns. The harmony was accompanied by the excellent music on offer from Piggery Brae who entertained the guests throughout the evening. A truly excellent and enjoyable evening was had by all the Brethren.

The Brethren from Whifflet were warmly received by Bro. Ian G O'Connor RWM and the Brethren of St Servanus, where they witnessed an excellent EA degreee by the Lodge Office Bearers.

Lodge Coltswood Glenboig 1067

250th Anniversary Burns Supper

Bro. George McPheat RWM, accompanied by Bro. Hugh Glen PM, Bro. Andy Chalmers PM, Bro John Moran and Bro Jim McLatchie had the pleasure of attending the annual Burns Supper at Lodge Coltswood Glenboig. The Brethren were warmly received by RWM Bro Colin Campbell and members of 1067 and enjoyed and excellent evening with our good friends and their guests at Glenboig.

This was an extra special event this year with it being the 250th anniversary celebration and on show was the original charter of St Davids Mauchline, this was the charter under which our Bard, Bro. Robert Burns was initiated. It should also be noted that this is only the 4th time the charter has left the Lodge in over 200 years and as one Bro. Chic Clarke PM said "Imagine bringing it to Glenboig" here I thought Glenboig was a nice place.

All in all it was indeed an tremendous evening and the RWM would wish to thank Bro Colin Campbell RWM and the members of 1067 once again for their kind hospitality and we look forward to meeting up again in near future.

Lodge Springburn, Glasgow 1198

The RWM Bro. George McPheat accompanied by Lodge Office Bearers attended Lodge Springburn, Glasgow  1198  this evening where they conducted the FC degree. The Brethren of 963 were warmly welcomed by the RWM Bro. Charles Gow and Brethren of Springburn and it is with great pleasure that we take this opportunity in meeting once again in fellowship and we look forward to many more years in each others company.

The RWM Bro. George McPheat would wish to thank the members of the Deputation for their continued support, furthermore the RWM has asked that special mention be made on behalf of Bro. John McClachlan for his excellent rendition of the tools on this his first time on the floor, well done and we trust you enjoyed the experience as much as we did.

It was with immense pleasure and pride that the RWM Bro. George McPheat accepted Honorary membership of Lodge Springburn 1198, this was more so as this was the first Honorary membership which he has received. The RWM would like to thank the Bro. Charles Gow RWM and the Brethren of Springburn for affording him such a privilege.

With the labours of the evening concluded the Brethren were then treated once again to the wonderful hospitality of Lodge Springburn, where a few drams were sipped and a thoroughly enjoyable evening was had by all.

They were warmly welcomed by Bro. Colin Campbell RWM and the Brethren of Glenboig. An excellent MM degree was thereafter conducted by the RWM and Office Bearers of Old Monkland St James 177. The Brethren were then treated to the usual excellent hospitality we have become accustomed to from our good friends of 1067.

The RWM Bro. George McPheat accompanied by Lodge Office Bearers attended Lodge Caldercruix 1314 this evening where they conducted the MMM degree. The Brethren were welcomed into the Lodge by Bro. Scott Avril RWM and after the normal formalities Bro. Brian Martin PM assumed control of the Lodge as Mark Master  and thereafter conducted an excellent degree. In the usual "Cruix" fashion the hospitality was superb and a good evening was enjoyed by the Brethren.

Hugh Glenn PM attended the Installation Ceremony of Burns Immortal 1730 on the above date. An excellent Installation ceremonial was conducted by Bro. Tom Cooper, P.M. and Bro. David McMorris, P.M. with Bro. Eric Bowie being duly Installed as Right Worshipful Master, the days events were witnessed by the Provincial Grand Master along with a large deputation from PGL. A thoroughly enjoyable afternoon was had by all with our own member PM Jim Blair replying to the toast on behalf of the visitors. Our sincere thanks to Bro. Eric Bowie, R.W.M. and the Brethren of 1730 for their warm welcome and generous hospitallity.

Visit to the Mother Lodge

The RWM Bro. Bill Cullen accompanied by Bro. Pringle Johnstone PM, Bro Jim Blair PM, Bro. Jim McLatchie and Bro. John Moran took the opportunity of visiting The Mother Lodge in Kilwinning. This visit has now become a bit of a annual tradition with some lodge members, as Kilwinning No 0 meet on the same nights as us, it has often proved a bit difficult to meet up with our friends from Ayrshire throughout the year. Another excellent evening in the company of our good friends from Ayrshire where we witnessed an excellent rendition of the MM degree.
